Sensor fusion for the mixed fleet era @ VDMA Robolunch
20.05.25
Vaisto is an expert in machine learning and sensor fusion, with extensive experience in applying the latest technologies in industrial settings. As a member of VDMA, the largest network organisation for the machinery and equipment manufacturing industry in Germany and Europe, we are happy to share our knowledge with other VDMA members.
In early April 2025, we were invited to speak at the VDMA event, Robolunch, about our expertise in sensor fusion methods and showcase a customer case. Vaisto’s professionals were glad to take the stage to discuss our findings in utilising deep sensor fusion with our customer Kalmar.
Vaisto is working with Kalmar to research the use of sensor fusion to further automate their straddle carriers and enable more flexible operations on mixed fleet areas. The straddle carriers must have 360° perception and detect all static and dynamic objects in all weather conditions, providing a great challenge for autonomous operation. With Vaisto’s support, Kalmar is pursuing innovative solutions to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Deep fusion is the most powerful method for building enhanced perception systems that are accurate and ready for adverse conditions. Vaisto used synthetic data and simulation to test the feasibility of the deep fusion methods for the straddle carrier development project. The success of the feasibility study and the learnings shared with the Robolunch crowd show that we are now ready to dive deeper into the world of deep fusion with Kalmar.
“The collaboration with Vaisto on our sensor fusion research project was highly beneficial. Vaisto provided clear and comprehensive documentation along with transparent communication regarding their subject matter expertise, which greatly facilitated effective project forecasting. Furthermore, Vaisto’s in-depth knowledge of machine learning and sensor fusion significantly accelerated the research phases of Kalmar’s development.”
