The Way of Vaisto

Thoughts from our Chief Machine Learning Engineer part 1:

Vaisto was founded based on a dream to make machines smarter. Today, we are a team of highly skilled forward-thinkers who collaborate with companies specialising in smart connected vehicles and industrial automation.

What used to be a dumb big piece of heavy metal, must now be smart. The features and product differentiation are now increasingly software driven. For many of the machine builders, this means an earth-shaking change.

Less metal, more software

In the second half of the 18th century steam engines revolutionized manufacturing. The number of factories grew rapidly as well as production quantities. Steam engine was cutting edge until combustion engines and electricity replaced it. Today we are taking the steps of the fourth industrial revolution.

Industry 4.0 is defined as automation of traditional manufacturing and industrial practices, using modern smart technology. Machines are still big and bulky on the outside, but on the inside, it is less about the metal and more about the software. Machine building is transforming towards software-centric products and revenue models.  

One of Vaisto’s very cornerstones is this transformation from traditional machine building towards software centricity and software driven innovation. Software is and will be a key ingredient in machines – that’s the very reason for our existence.

Many of us have a background in developing mobile devices and consumer electronics. This sector can be seen pioneering a few important aspects, namely open source and technologies. This was then adopted by the automotive industry and now it is time for the heavy machinery to carry the torch.

Eager, agile and able

For Vaisto, it’s all about being endlessly curious; about being hungry to learn. Our main asset and investment is our team and our expertise. The learning and changing customer needs continuously shape our service offering.

The way of Vaisto has always been a low-hierarchy organization that emphasises learning and doing things together. Our team has a long and diverse experience in the industry. We are skilled and big enough scale and deliver but are small enough to care.
